DIY or Call Us?

Checking your rollers is safe enough: pull the release cord on the opener, lift the door to waist height, and wiggle each roller in its hinge. If it spins freely and the wheel has no cracks, it’s fine. If it’s seized or wobbling, mark it with tape and count how many.

Replacing the roller itself is where DIY goes wrong. The door is under spring tension, and the roller sits in a hinge bracket that’s also under load from the panel weight. Prying a roller out without supporting the section risks the door dropping in the track, bent hinges, or a hand caught between panel and jamb. The bottom roller on a Clopay door is especially tricky - the bottom bracket is attached to the lift cable, which is under hundreds of pounds of tension from the torsion spring.
